One need not be a member to participate in the fellowship and ministry of FPCI.
We do however recognize the need for a formal membership for those who are serious about committing to a life in Jesus Christ.
Our commitment to all who regularly worship with us is to offer opportunities that keep moving people to deeper levels of spiritual growth and service.
For those seeking a formal membership with us we offer one-on-one tutoring in a 3-4 session class. Persons are taken through the class prior to reception into membership. This class is taught by our Pastor Dr. Kidd and members of the Evangelism Ministry.

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

ABOUT THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The Presbyterian Church does not claim to be “the true church,” and believes there is no one denomination or church structure that is “the true church” by itself. The true church is wherever there are sincere believers gathered together in Jesus’ Name, for there He is present (Matthew 18:20). There He is building His Church upon His followers’ faith in the gospel (Matthew 16:17-18). That is why Presbyterians welcome fellowship with other Christian churches.
The distinguishing marks of the Presbyterian Church are few and simple. Some of them are shared by other denominations as well. The Presbyterian Church is:
A REFORMED CHURCH
Presbyterianism grew out of John Calvin’s part of the protestant reformation in the 1500’s. Martin Luther had turned the faith of the church back to the Bible. John Calvin went on to help people reform the organization of the church into a MORE BIBLICAL PATTERN. He also helped Christians reform the immoral structures and practices of an unjust society, along the lines of the biblical prophets’ call of justice.

A REPRESENTATIVE CHURCH
Our name “Presbyterian” comes from the biblical practice of governing the congregation by presbyters (“elders” in English) which were selected from among the people.

A CONSTITUTIONAL CHURCH
We believe that the elders are to ensure that worship and church business are done “decently and in order.” Our constitution (known as the Book of Order sets forth a representative system based on broad biblical principles of order and discipline.
A CONFESSIONAL CHURCH
Another part of our constitution is known as the Book of Confessions. “Confessions” in this sense is not admitting our sins to God, but refers to confessions offaith, sometimes known as “creeds.” Our confessions or creeds (such as Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed, Westminster Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism and the Confession of 1967) do not take the place of the Bible, but rather are summaries of what the Bible says and of ways to apply the Bible in particular settings. One of the earliest creeds used by Christians was “Jesus is Lord” (1 Corinthians 12:3). It is thought that the early Christians used passages like Philippians 2:5-11 as a creed or confession to be spoken or as a hymn to be sung.
A CONNECTIONAL CHURCH
We believe the early Christian churches were connected together by representative geographical consultations as in Acts 15:2-4. We Presbyterians call our basic representative geographical consultations “Presbyteries,” based upon the KJV English of 1 Timothy 4:14.
BEING A MEMBER
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MEMBER
The difference between “attenders” and “members” can be summed up in one word: commitment.
At First Presbyterian Church we recognize the need for a formal membership.
We ask you to commit to membership for four reasons:
A Biblical Reason: Christ is committed to the church.
…Christ loved the church, and he gave his life for it. Ephesians 5:25
A Cultural Reason: It is an antidote to our society.
We live in an age where very few want to be committed to anything…a job…a marriage… our country. This attitude has even produced a generation of “church shoppers & hoppers.” Me-1Xmembership swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” Membership is an unselfish decision. Commitment always builds character.
A Practical Reason: It defines who can be counted on.
Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Every business has a payroll. Every army has an enlistment. Even our country takes a census and requires voter registration. Membership identifies our family.
A Personal Reason: It produces spiritual growth.
The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable when you’re not committed to any specific church family.
